Dallas Cowboys 2018 NFL Draft Character Education Event

Charlotte Jones-Anderson kicked off the first ever Character Playbook Hour at the 2018 NFL Draft in Arlington, Texas. This first time event hosted over 750 local students from across the Arlington, Frisco, Fort Worth, and Dallas School Districts. The hour event was hosted by Cowboys Legend Demarcus Ware and Cowboys Center Travis Frederick and consisted of the multiple character education activities.

The start of the activities was a Character Playbook Gameshow. For the gameshow, students were paired with potential first round draft picks to test their knowledge of character and healthy relationships. Through true and false, short answer, and whiteboard questions, the team from Ft. Worth was named the champion in a closely contested game.

During the stage transition Travis and Demarcus spoke to crowd about their lives on and off the field and the lessons that they had learned about character and being a great person when no one else is watching.

Part two of the Character Playbook Hour consisted of character education activities with a panel of 11 first round draft hopefuls. Lead by Demarcus and Travis they asked the draftees a number of questions and took student questions from the audience.

The Character Playbook hour was a day of many firsts. It brought the importance of character education front and center to one of the NFL’s largest events. It gave a powerful voice to the message of making good choices and building healthy relationships with your teammates, your family, and your friends.
