Cardinals and United Way Host Character Education Program
On May 11th the Arizona Cardinals, Valley of the Sun United Way, and Verizon hosted 180 local students at the American Sports Complex at Avondale for the Character Playbook Experience, a capstone to the character education program. This exciting event included over 30 volunteers and staff from sponsors, as well as a special visit from one of the owners of the Cardinals and the mayor of Avondale. Students had to the opportunity to participate in a two part event with plenty of character education activities.
The first part of the event was a conversation on character with Cardinal Legends, cheerleaders, and executives from the United Way, Verizon, and the Cardinals. Big Red was in the action as well sitting amongst the crowd and keeping the students excited throughout.
Part two of the event included 6 activities that were character themed football stations. Through this combination of skills and focus, students had the chance to show what they have learned in the Character Playbook character education curriculum. United Way and Verizon volunteers captained the stations and brought a new and exciting energy to the Character Playbook Experience.
The event ended with a challenge from the Cardinals to take these skills and positivity back into your community and share it with your friends and classmates. Together we can make a huge difference to improve the social emotional learning in and communities.
